Get To Know Scott

What are you happiest doing when you’re not working? Traveling. I really enjoy exploring new places, trying new foods, and gaining experiences that put me outside my comfort zone. Anything from a weekend excursion to traveling abroad for weeks at a time keeps me excited for the next adventure.

What’s your favorite book or podcast? Lately I’ve been hooked on a podcast called The War on Cars, a tongue-in-cheek name that belies a great series investigating how to move our cities and our society away from automobile dependence and toward a more sustainable, equitable, and livable future. The pod covers everything from marketing and law enforcement to family lifestyles and transportation funding.

What cause/nonprofit do you support? I help lead the grassroots Lid I-5 project in Seattle, both as a personal interest and also to build up my skills and knowledge that directly relate to my work at MAKERS. That includes our efforts in online and in-person outreach (including dozens of tours, charrettes, and speaking appearances over the years), urban design, GIS mapping, law and case study research, public relations, graphics, and connecting with elected officials and community partners. I’ve been working on this since 2015, and recently our efforts helped achieved a major milestone with a feasibility study that confirms the project is possible.
