We helped produce a series of housing guidebooks on behalf of the Washington State Department of Commerce. These guidebooks, covering housing need assessments, housing action plans, and comprehensive plan housing elements, will help cities strategically pursue housing capacity expansion with community support. We were primarily involved with the Housing Action Plan (HAP) and Housing Element Guidebooks, with major contributions to chapters on zoning and regulatory strategies and community engagement. We also developed the community engagement chapter for the HAP Guidebook, distilling years of experience building advocates for community plans within communities.
Outcomes
- Accessible guidebooks for planners, public officials, and engaged citizens
- Synthesized cutting-edge best practices for housing code, community engagement, and anti-displacement
- Influenced development of housing action plans by 41 cities (and counting) in Washington state
