Planner

Alec recently joined Makers and is currently supporting the federal planning team from the San Diego office. As a planner, he is passionate about the interdisciplinary nature of the work and bringing people together to find unique solutions. He has an educational background in environmental science and architecture, and he finished his design thesis, A Resilient Lake Washington Ship Canal, in 2023. His professional interests include multi-modal transportation planning, affordable housing, and circular economies. Outside the office, you can find Alec exploring California’s backcountry on his bike.

If you could have a conversation with anyone throughout history, who would it be? I would love to put Edward Abbey, Yvon Chouinard, Ursula Le Guin, and Jane Jacobs in a room and just listen to what they come up with.

What’s one thing on your bucket list? Finish hiking the Pacific Crest Trail! Currently at 800 miles out of 2600.

What’s your favorite book or podcast? Ecotopia by Ernest Callenbach – the inspiration for the Earth First movement and a prescient look at what life could be like if we solved our issues relating to climate change.
