We crafted a new vision statement, developed a preferred land use concept, and created goals and policies for the Anacortes Comprehensive Plan’s eight elements. Our efforts focused on the land use element and coordinating the work of the other consultant firms and city staff on the remaining elements. The plan emphasizes clear policy guidance for future zoning and development regulation updates, housing diversity strategies, transportation improvements, environmental sustainability actions, economic development strategies, and much more. We subsequently overhauled Anacortes’ zoning code and created new design standards for commercial and residential development.
Outcomes
- Facilitation of nearly 20 Planning Commission and City Council meetings and response to hundreds of public comments
- Created an actionable plan that seamlessly translated to implementation of zoning updates
- Multiple new residential projects citywide and a major waterfront development are underway
