We worked with the Tacoma Fire Department (TFD) to improve emergency response, protect firefighter health, modernize facilities, and build resiliency in a growing community. With rapidly increasing call volumes and 33% historic structures, TFD’s facilities are undersized and outdated for modern firefighting needs. MAKERS incorporated the latest trends in clean station design to prioritize firefighter health and well-being in future facilities. This plan recommends solutions to existing facility issues and prioritizes future facility investments.
Outcomes
- Proposed portfolio investments to improve service, reduce operating costs, and cover response gaps
- Recommended investments by implementation priority
- Considered value of historic fire stations to department culture and community character
- Identified opportunities to implement clean station design to protect firefighter mental and physical health
