In August 2018, MAKERS began working with the Washington Department of Commerce to develop the Washington State Guidebook on Military & Community Compatibility (Guidebook). The culmination work done by Commerce starting in 2016, including two previous studies, the Guidebook will serve as an outreach tool in addition to a technical assistance guide.
A major part of the project is outreach to the public in addition to civilian and military land use planners involved with compatibility planning. The project team will be conducting extensive outreach, including technical focus groups and community workshops, throughout fall 2018 in regions throughout the State of Washington.
The Guidebook will be divided into three parts – technical guides for both the community and planning professionals, as well as an implementation toolkit. A draft Guidebook will be open for public comment early 2019 with the project targeted for completion by July 2019.
