As part of SR 520 project planning, the City and WSDOT jointly funded a committee composed of Seattle neighborhood representatives to conduct a study of possible measures to improve conditions to local streets and neighborhoods resulting from the corridor reconstruction. MAKERS assisted the committee in identifying impacts to be evaluated during the EIS and recommending possible improvements for inclusion as part of the project.

MAKERS conducted several work sessions with the committee and local neighborhoods to determine a logical course of action and then prepared conceptual designs for several lid, ramp, and street projects. Based on the work, the committee selected a preferred alternative that was included in the EIS. The effort won an APA Award for community participation.
