The Livable South Downtown planning project identifies City land use actions to create a more livable community by encouraging appropriate residential and job-related development in the area. MAKERS helped the City planning effort by providing guidance and support with their urban design expertise, checking and promoting land use tools, and developing recommendations that focus on:

  • Respecting the neighborhood character and plans
  • Promoting pedestrian-oriented development and human scale, even in mid- to high-rise structures
  • Maximizing pedestrian connectivity within and across the project’s subareas
  • Promoting green street concepts and sustainable practices in future developments

MAKERS’ visualizations of the proposed land use and urban design changes helped staff understand the effects of alternative measures and explained proposals to the public.
