The MCRD Master plan maximizes the effectiveness and efficiency of existing physical resources at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego to sustain its legacy of making Marines. The resulting plan, which meets all current Department of Defense and Marine Corps guidance, functions within the framework of major planning factors that include a National Historic District and the adjacent San Diego International Airport. The plan focuses on sustaining an installation where many facilities were built in the 1920’s, the core recruit population is highly transient, and land is limited. Unlike other Master Plans that are often developed around extensive military construction (MILCON) programs, the MCRD Master Plan is oriented toward mission sustainment, facility optimization, non-traditional solutions, and improvements through incremental change.
