MAKERS’ award winning sign code is the product of close collaboration with the City’s sign committee, City staff, public officials, and the broader Lacey community. The updated code helps to enhance signage opportunities for businesses while enhancing the character of signage. The adopted code provisions function as a collection of tools working together. Key attributes include unique sign clutter management provisions, modest increases in the size and number of signs in exchange for higher quality design provisions, new digital sign standards that manage the size, image dwell time, and brightness of digital sign components, and an emphasis in graphics during the process and in the final code to help illustrate the new provisions.

The code was a major topic of an article for Washington’s Municipal Research Service Center’s Insight Blog titled: Sign code update: Finding the sweet spot between flexibility & clutter.
