MAKERS led the urban design of Rucker and Hoyt avenues which was the City of Everett’s initial effort to implement the downtown vision plan.  That plan, which was also prepared by MAKERS,  calls for streets to play important transportation and community development roles. The designs for Rucker and Hoyt avenues are currently achieving the following goals:

  • Providing a pleasing entry into downtown
  • Increasing pedestrian quality and activity
  • Encouraging residential neighborhood development
  • Connecting key civic facilities
  • Enhancing downtown’s visual character

The City established an art district character on Hoyt Avenue to embrace many of the adjacent uses including a mixed use artists housing and studio complex. The plan includes the use of a custom design “art light pole”, pedestals for the display of public art sculptures, special pavements and sidewalk inlays, a green screen for the face of a public parking garage, and special raised planters.

Plan by Makers, implementation by others.
