When a regional developer planned to build big-box retail near downtown, citizens and elected officials rejected their proposal. Leading a team of economic, engineering, transportation, and environmental science experts, MAKERS developed a plan for the site that satisfied property owner and community desires as well as the City’s development goals. MAKERS’ plan:

  • Built consensus between multiple developer, owner, and community stakeholders on an aggressive two-month schedule.
  • Includes a mix of uses that supports Lake Steven’s ambitious downtown development plan.
  • Strengthens pedestrian connections to downtown and the Centennial Trail by incorporating public and private investment in trails and sidewalks.
  • Includes design guidelines to ensure coordinated, quality site development.
