What We Do
MAKERS has a reputation for creative and practical planning and design solutions, great customer service, and happy clients.
Most of the pressing planning challenges facing communities today, including ecnomic vitality, transportation efficiency, ecological health, environmental justice, and effective growth management, have a significant regional component and planners must address these challenges at the regional level. To accomplish this, we will need to build a sense of regional community that fosters collective interjurisdictional collaboration.
Understanding the nature of this challenge, MAKERS has been a leader in promoting regional solutions through both professional and volunteer efforts. Beginning with John Owen’s co-editing of a 1989 Arcade issue on Regional Planning that argued for what eventually became Washington State’s Growth Management Act, the firm has actively advocated for planning activities that cross jurisdictional boundaries to address large scale challenges. And, through funded projects, MAKERS has demonstrated that such collaborative efforts are effective.
